A Proto-disciplinary Approach

Ornatista begins before the beginning. Before the disciplines existed as they do today in their separate silos, there was simply the energy of creation. By tapping into the pure creative force, all things are possible. We move fluidly between disciplines. We dance to generate form, we draw to listen deeply, we make music to visualize geometry. At the end of the day we create culture through expanding our view of the cosmos.

Source texts that inform our proto-disciplinary approach include Etymologies by Isidore of Seville, and the Yoga Sutra of Master Patanjali. The Etymologies is an 8th century work that presents the original seven liberal arts as practiced in Plato’s Academy - the trivium and the quadrivium. Ornatista is particularly focused on the exploration of the Quadrivium, which comprises of the study of number, geometry, harmony, and cosmos.

The Yoga Sutra of Master Patanjali presents a complete system of practice that can be applied to any discipline by getting to the heart of a universal methodology for changing the world through working at the human scale. Ornatista is particularly informed by the third chapter of the yoga sutra and the detailed presentations of how transformation occurs through different methodologies of iteration and application of focused consciousness.
